Minnesota – Keith Ellison released the following statement announcing his candidacy for Minnesota Attorney General:

“Our pledge of allegiance promises an America with liberty and justice for all – no exceptions. But too often, Minnesota’s working families and the most vulnerable among us are taken advantage of or are targets of discrimination.  I am running to be the People’s Lawyer to hold those in power accountable and to protect and defend all Minnesotans.

“When Minnesotans are ripped off, they need a fighter on their side. In Congress, I have taken strong action to protect consumers, passing laws to fight credit card abuse and to stand up for the rights of tenants and renters, and founding the Congressional Antitrust Caucus. As Attorney General, I will confront fraud and abuse, from student loans to drug prices, and will defend Minnesotans from the harmful effects of corporate monopolies.

“Workers deserve a voice on the job, a fair day’s wage, and a safe workplace. I am a champion for labor and workers’ rights, carrying the bill for a $15 minimum wage and leading the charge against wage theft at the federal level. As Attorney General, I will ensure that workers receive their full wages and stand up for the right to collectively bargain.

“Minnesotans of all backgrounds deserve to be treated with fairness.  As a former civil rights attorney for 16 years, I know the value of a good lawyer to protect the rights of all to be free from discrimination and harm. As Attorney General, I will push for equal rights under the law, for commonsense gun safety laws, and for criminal justice reform that ends unjust policies and creates a pathway for Minnesotans to reenter as contributing members of society.

“No one – not even a President – is above the law. From immigration reform to protecting our air and water, it has never been more important to have a leader as Attorney General who can stand up against threats to our neighbors’ health or freedoms.

“Whether you’re a family farmer from Zumbrota or the borrower of a small loan from St. Louis Park you deserve an Attorney General who will never stop fighting for you and your family. That is what I plan to do.”
