Minnesota Nurses Endorse Keith Ellison for Attorney General

With endorsement, Minnesota Nurses cite Ellison’s leadership to expand access to affordable health care for all

Nurses join the Minnesota Building Trades and DFL African American caucus to endorse Ellison this week

MINNESOTA – The Minnesota Nurses Association (MNA) today announced their endorsement of Congressman Keith Ellison to be Minnesota’s next Attorney General. In endorsing Ellison, MNA cited Ellison’s commitment to increasing access to affordable and accessible health care for all.

“I am honored to have the support of Minnesota’s nurses as we continue our work together to make health care more affordable and accessible for all. Nobody knows better the fixes our system needs than those on the frontlines of providing quality care every day,” said Ellison. “While my Republican opponent wants to repeal the Affordable Care Act, as your Attorney General, I will hold pharmaceutical and health insurance companies accountable and protect access to affordable health care for all Minnesota families.”

As Minnesota Attorney General, Ellison will make health care more affordable and accessible by defending the Affordable Care Act (ACA) and protections for pre-existing conditions; fighting back against attempts to undermine Medicaid; and holding big pharmaceutical companies accountable, cracking down on dirty tricks that raise prices and make health care less affordable for families. “Keith Ellison has literally been with nurses every step of the way,” said Mary C. Turner, president of the Minnesota Nurses Association. “Keith has walked with us on the picket line and stood up for healthcare for all, worker rights, a livable wage, and taxes on Wall Street. He’s always been there.

“MNA looks forward to working with Ellison and the Attorney General’s office on issues like the non-profit status of health care plans, more transparent medical billing practices, and ensuring that drug companies and health insurance companies are putting the patient at the forefront of their work.”

MNA’s endorsement joins the Minnesota Building Trades and the DFL African American Caucus in supporting Keith Ellison to be the People’s Lawyer as Attorney General this week. Last week, the Minnesota AFL-CIO and AFSCME Council 5 also announced their support of Ellison for Attorney General.
