MINNESOTA – Today, President Donald Trump’s nominee for the United States Supreme Court, Brett Kavanaugh, began confirmation hearings with the United States Senate. Congressman Keith Ellison, candidate for Minnesota Attorney General and Deputy Chair of the Democratic National Committee, released the following statement in response.
“Today’s hearing has made clear that President Trump’s brand of justice is on the ballot this November. Brett Kavanaugh is the latest in a series of conservative judicial appointees who would work to overturn the Affordable Care Act and Roe v. Wade, limiting health care choices for millions of Americans. I thank Senate Democrats, especially Minnesota Senators Amy Klobuchar and Tina Smith, for their strong efforts on this dangerous and irresponsible nomination.
“In Minnesota, the stakes are just as high. Minnesota Republicans have nominated a candidate for Attorney General who wants to use the office to enforce President Trump’s agenda, from repealing the Affordable Care Act, to revoking a woman’s right to choose. As Minnesota’s next Attorney General, I will stand up to the Trump Administration, health insurance companies, and powerful special interests, to protect affordable health care and a fair economy for all Minnesotans.”
